Story
As the brainchild of WK Tokyo Lab, HIFANA has become a tangible reality.
Where the genre of electronic music has transformed itself into one that
utilizes preprogrammed synching and a test of iPod-proficiency, this electronic
duo, hailing from Kichijoji, Japan, has set hurdles for genre categorization.
While many electronic acts today show artists glued to their turntables
and laptops, electro-percussionists “Juicy” and “Keizomachine!”
are seen hitting their samplers and cutting beats using real-time samplers.
No pre programming with these guys.
In November 2003, HIFANA released their first album "Fresh Push Breakin'.” The album utilized full use of the sequencer, a terrific mix of native instruments, Okinawan music, natural sounds, scratch and human beatbox, together with a remarkable sense of humor. “Fresh Push Breakin’” was selected by various media as one of the best CDs of 2004. The music video "FATBROS" by W+K Tokyo LAB was based on illustrations by HIFANA member, Juicy, and his brother, MAHARO. The video has won various awards including the Space Shower Music Video Award 04: Best CG/Animation Video Award, 2004 ONE SHOW FILM (NYC), and D&AD 2004 (LONDON).
