Synopsis

There have been many mystery heroes throughout its times. To name a few: Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Philip Marlowe. They are legends. Now from Japan come new heroes at ‘D’etective ‘O’ffice ‘5’. Located in the gritty underbelly of Tokyo’s neighboring Kawasaki City. DO5 has a rich 60-year history of crime solving and is the headquarters where 100 detectives are employed. They don’t go by names. Each is identified by a personal code: A 3-digit number beginning with the number 5: 500 to 599. They combine their unique skills with ‘7 tolls of the trade’ to solve impossible crimes. The DO5 series currently consists of 2 feature films and 50 online film episodes and has its fights set in becoming the longest running detective series in the world. About the Director

Kaizo Hayashi was born in Kyoto in 1957. His first short film, "Sleep So As To Dream (1985)", won international acclaim, and he became steadfastly known with the films like “The Most Terrible Time in My Life (1993)” and “Stairway to the Distant Past (1994)” featuring Maiku Hama, a detective. Not only does he write and direct, he also produced “A Forest With No Name (2002)”. Once being a detective himself, Kaizo Hayashi has made numerous sleuth films. Whether it’s writing, directing, or producing, he reminds us that every nightmare has a silver lining. His fascinating contributions to film have earned him many fans throughout Asia.

Dream Kid, Inc. was established in 2004. Hiroki Ohwada is the central member of this company and due to his prior experience in the IT business, he began producing both short and feature films for the Internet. Since 2005, he started the “Detective Office 5” project (100 short episodes, and some feature films) with director Kaizo Hayashi. The project has attracted a lot of attention in Japan and it has been also released in Taiwan, China, Korea and many other countries since 2007. We have introduced the “Detective Office 5” project at the Japan booth during AFM 2007 and EFM 2008.
